Athlete of the Month: Aween Ali Qadir

Student's name: Aween Ali Qadir
Academic Year or APP Level: Freshman
Sport: Soccer
Major: Engineering

Aween is a great student and a fantastic athlete. She is one of the original members of the women's soccer team, the 2011 recipient of the team's Coach's Award and she was selected as co-captain this year. Because she is a more experienced player, she never misses an opportunity to show the newer players how to master a new skill that is introduced in practice. Aween has improved in the sport immensely over the past three years which is due in part to her tremendous athleticism but can be highly attributed to the amount of hard work that she has put in to become a better player. She is a natural leader who motivates her teammates to work hard and demonstrate commitment and dedication.

You can always hear Aween encouraging her teammates when she is on and off the soccer field.  Not a practice goes by without hearing Aween scream out, “Come on girls”, “let’s go”, “over here” and “good job” for the entire practice.   Whenever we say it’s time to end practice, Aween will often say, “Oh no.  Let’s just play for a few more minutes.”

Aween is tenacious in practice, working just as hard on drills as she would in a game. She is an exemplary student-athlete. She never misses practice due to homework, yet is able to finish all of her work on time. Our team would not be the same without her!
