From playing college basketball at NYU to starting his own business, Dr. Roger Geyer has done it all. The Ohio native has been teaching IT, business statistics and programming at AUIS for the past four years, and speaks fondly of his decistion to come to Sulaimani.
“I was looking for an interesting and adventuresome opportunity, and I found AUIS,” he said. “I’ve truly enjoyed my time here, especially watching our department move in such positive direction. I love the idea of coming to Iraq and being a part of building something from the ground up.”
Before coming to AUIS, Geyer taught math at a junior high school, which is where he got involved with computers. He later went on to receive his Master of Education from Old Dominion University in 1993 and his PhD is in Instructional Technologies from University of Virginia in 2008.
In addition to his teaching experience, Geyer has explored a number of other careers and opportunities. He played college basketball at NYU, and also started his own business, HyperLearning Technologies, with his brother in 1995.
Geyer has published numerous articles on technology, and has presented papers both nationally and internationally on the use of technology in Education. Further, he recently advised several AUIS teams that participated in the 2012 Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition, including the second place finishers, Limitless.
