Faculty Profile: Dr. Vincent McGuire

Dr. Vincent McGuire came to AUIS in 2011 and has enjoyed the experience so much that he will return for the upcoming academic year.

McGuire, who is currently on leave from his teaching post at the University of Colorado Boulder, received his PhD in Political Science from the same institution, as well as a Master’s Degree from New York University. At AUIS, McGuire teaches courses about politics, specifically Politics and Government, American Government, and Politics and Literature.

“What I enjoy most about working at AUIS is how much I’ve learned from my students,” he said. “I come out of every class knowing something new about culture, politics, or religion.”

Additionally, McGuire appreciates having the opportunity to live in the Kurdistan Region. He likes spending time in Sulaimani’s bazaar on the weekends, and also enjoys hiking, particularly at the Shanidar Caves, an archaeological site in the Zagros Mountains.

“We (my family and I) absolutely love it here,” said McGuire. “I’m looking forward to next year.”
